OLYMPIC GOLD MEDAL

Olympic Gold Medals: A Design Retrospective Today marks the last day of the olympics. August 24th though I’m technically an hour behind schedule. However, despite my time short-comings CreativeFluff is bringing you an Olympic special on the history of the Olympic Gold Medal and it’s changes in design over time. But before we take a look at the sportsy ‘bling bling’ let’s get a little basic history of the gold medal out of the way. The actual origin of the hold medal derives itself from ancient military history; though the medal itself is the ‘highest’ honor awarded outside of the military for any reason. Gold of course is followed respectivly by silver and bronze. These golden medals have been awarded as the highest form of achievements in the arts and sciences (the most noteable gold medal is awarded as the Nobel Peace Prize).
